Located a 20kms south from Rome is the remains of a volcano with wooded trails and steep peaks.
Cycle from Rome to the Volcano where the best mountain bike and downhill trails can be found. It takes approximately 2 hours cycling along the Appian Way.
There are many trails in this area, known as the Castelli Romani as well as interesting towns to visit if you stayed for a weekend. Like Castel Gandolfo with Pope’s summer residence, now open to the public and visitable even the Garden of the Apostolic Palace.
The volcano collapsed thousands of years ago and lakes have formed in it’s craters. Surrounding the lakes are thick woods with a great number of off-road/ mountain bike trails.
There are a lot of off-road trails that include some seriously good downhill runs. You can pump through the jumps or just flow down the side of the volcano hill on these off-road tracks with full suspension bikes.
If you have time, why not take an overnight cycling trip since it would be better to face the downhill trails from the top of the Volcano after a good night’s rest!
Cycling Rome’s Volcano and it’s downhill trails.
