Cycle through the wooded volcanic hills south east of Rome on a day trip which includes a visit to a vineyard for a wine tasting session.
We start from the Frascati train station, which is easy to reach from Romes main train station Termini.
Morning Only (TBC)
Visit a wine producer from the Frascati region, famous for its white wine and taste some of their wines on a wine tasting session paired with food. Take a tour of their grounds to hear about the wine production and techniques they use today and how it differs from the past.
Cycle through the woods of the Castelli Romani, cycling to the top of the mount that overlooks Frascati to see the remains of the roman settlement and archaeological area called Il Tusculo (official website).
Pass through the town Frascati and Monte Porzio di Catone on route, stopping to visit the Gardens of Villa Aldobrandini
For more info in english about the Tuscolo Archeological site visit https://www.visitcastelliromani.it/en/travelguide/archaeological-excavations-of-tusculum/
We’ll meet at the Frascati train station by 10am, distributing the bicycles to the participants and preparing the group.
Once everyone is ready we will start the tour by passing through the Gardens of Villa Aldobrandini, a once aristocratic family that have seen better years. Their grounds are open to the public and the gardens are an excellent example of Italian Baroque Gardening.
Winding our way up from the Villa Aldobrandini along an asphalted road snaking along through woodland, we arrive at Mount Tuscolo.
Visit the roman ruins and get a -view of the valley below.
Cycle back down from the mount, passing through Monte Porzio di Catone and arriving at the Cantina Santa Benedetta after having cycled through the town.
Stop for a wine tasting session combined with food and a visit to the vineyards/cellars.
On our way back to the train staion, we will have the chance to visit Frascati during which we will point out some places of interest.
Once you have returned the bikes, you can either continue your stay in Frascati or return to Rome by train.
