Join us on a bike tour of the Tuscia Region (north of Rome) to get a taste of rural Italy complete with a visit to the Ancient City of Canale Monterano.
Cycle along Gravel Roads between Rome and Viterbo around a volcanic lake, sampling the local italian products of the area.
Spend the rest of the day exploring the ruins around Canale MOnterano or in the nearby town of Manziana.
Nestled in the crater of an extinct volcano, Lake Martignano provides a picturesque setting for our gravel bike tour. As we cycle along the gravel roads we’ll have the opportunity to admire the beauty of this volcanic lake. Tucked away is it is below the treeline in the bottom of an extinct volcano. Its protected by local parkland law and is a favorite for nature lovers due the fact its not accessible by car, making it a perfect gravel bike tour.
Bracciano Lake and the surrounding woods are incredible for outdoor enthusiasts. The area boasts excellent cycling trails, perfect for exploring the picturesque paths and immersing oneself in nature. As you pedal through the woods, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the glistening lake. The route also includes some thrilling single track mountain biking on our way through the woods.
Continuing on from Oriolo Romano 6km’s the woodland is replaced with urban development until we reach the Natural Reserve of Monterano. Famous for its sulfur spring, ancient Etruscan tombs and an abandoned palace belonging to the noble family Altieri , we cycle between the ruins of an abandoned village and along the Mignon River. Search for the Bernini Sculpture of a Lion!
We meet at a central location in Rome (please see Start Time above) from where we will distribute the bikes and get on a train. If you prefer to meet us directly where the tour will begin (Anguillara Train Station) please let us at time of booking in the comments section.
