Something new even for the most experienced of those who have cycled the Eternal City- Ostia Antica by bicycle!
This tour takes place almost entirely off-road, following a newly opened bike path that runs alongside the river in Rome to the Mediterranean sea. Passing through Italian countryside and fields, roman ruins and even Etruscan till the archaeological site of Ostia Antica.
At this point, participants will be taken on a guided tour of the ancient port of Rome and adjacent city with its preserved streets, shops and brothels among other things!
After a sit down lunch in the nearby restaurant, we return to Rome by train.
Departing from our bike shop near the colosseum, we provide participants with a trekking bicycle or hybrid bicycle suitable for the terrain. Equipped with a carrier bag for small objects like cellphone, camera, sweater etc. E-bikes available upon request.
Considering that the bike lane that runs alongside the tiber river is only partially complete, some local cyclist activists have actually taken it upon themselves to clear the way to the sea.
Thanks to this action, we can now reach the med without having to cycle on the roads: Pass under bridges, cycle through fields and between trails, snaking the whole way downhill to the sea.
Just before reaching the sea, we arrive at the archaeological site of Ostia Antica. Here we will lock up the bikes and head on foot into this park where we will be taken of a guided visit of Romes ancient port and the life of the city that surrounded it. Immagine shop lined streets and merchant traders, as well as one of the oldest sites of jewish settlement.
After having returned to the bikes, we cycle the last few kilometres ( a total of 35kms) on a final stretch of asphalted bike lane that runs through the town of Fiumicino to where we will have lunch overlooking the sea.
At this point in the early afternoon, we head to the nearby train station fro a 40 minute train ride back to rome.
We will provide you with a bicycle (electric bicycles available), helmet and bike bag (for carrying small objects)
In the event you will be cycling with infants, we have attachments such as child trailer, baby seats etc. Please add this to the booking comment section.
