One of the best trips from Rome is the Castelli Romani on the Alban Hills in the south east, to Frascati for example.
Famous for its wineries and vineyards which grow well on the volcanic, nutrient rich soil and patroned through the ages by the Aldobrandini Family (a noble italian family). A quick train ride from Rome will find you immersed in vineyards and woods.
Frascati is a great place for Vineyards and Food Tours and you will even be able to visit the Aldobrandini Gardens which are open to the public and free to enter. To visit one of the Vineyards and get a taste of Frascati, check out the following family run farm open to the public for Wine Tasting and a visit to the Vineyards: Minardi Vineyard Frascati.
Osteria del Olmo – A Family Tradition
The tradition of growing grapes and wine production is nothing new to this family (watch a video).
They have been making wine since the 1900`s in the hills of Frascati. Their family wine has been sold in Piazza del Olmo for more than a century. At their cantina they sell their own wine and you can enjoy a typical Fraschetta in the early evening of a 1/4 litre of white wine accompanied by finger food or choose to eat a full menu from the recently opened restuarant.
