Monte Argentario & Tuscany Coastline

Monte Argentario is a land linked island in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany. Its closest train station is served on the Rome- Pisa train line, Orbetello Scalo and is approximately 1.5 hours train ride from Rome Termini.

It is surrounded by crystal blue seas with magnificent views from the cliffs, overlooking the medieterrean sea. It has been largely left alone over the years of costruction not only because its very rugged and rocky but also because its mostly been bought up by large investing firms, including the Queen of Holland who owns the Villa di Elefante Felice (which has been put up for sale).

Cycling up through the scrubby bush and rocky hills over gravel roads or asphalted roads to get to the top can be very rewarding as you are blessed with a view of the Porto Ercole on the southern side as well as main land italy. Continuing by bike downhill from the mount will lead you to one of the many bays where you can strip off and go for a swim.

Ideally this location for cycling in Italy is best down on a route that starts further south of the island, on the mainland. This way as your cycling up towards the Argentario you pass along the protected WWF wetland and the many “tomboli” or sandbars until you pass under the pine wood called the Feniglia. Many wildlife reserves and trails in the area have created a protected area where much fauna can be seen.
