There is a great place to go swimming (and biking) just north of Rome. The area around the lakes is protected parkland with forests of Birch and Pine trees growing around the lakes.
Visiting this area known as the Regional Park of Bracciano and Martigniano Lakes is great fun for a family tired of walking around Romes monuments and looking for somewhere to escape the heat and relax. There are two lakes both easy to reach from the train station, although you need to use a local bus from the train station. Otherwise we offer a bicycle hire service to allow you to reach the lake on your own.
The Lake of Martignano is a little hidden from view so is better preserved and more fun by bike. The trail that runs between the two lakes is one of the best bike tours of the area and can be included on a Rome Day Trip. Coming from Ostiense or Trastevere Train Station, it takes approximately 45 minutes to reach Anguillara Sabazia or Bracciano station.
Besides the two lakes in the area there is also a great deal to see around the lakes, cycling through the woodland to Sutri as an ideal overnight trip since its not so far away (total 35 kms from Bracciano train station). Sutri is famous for its etruscan origins and roman ampitheatre carved into the rock and can be reached by cycling thorugh the Regionale Park of Bracciano & Martignano Lake.
